Activists are pushing Gov. Tony Evers to take executive action to reduce the state’s prison population, rather than waiting for Republicans to play ball.
The prison at Prairie du Chien is designed to house 326 prisoners, but had 500 last month. Now, over 400 have been infected with COVID-19 and one is dead.
At least two prisoners are on hunger strike in Boscobel as COVID-19 continues to sweep through the state’s prisons. A demonstration is planned on Tuesday calling on Gov. Evers to take action.
